Angela Burns

Angela carries out a number of roles within Spence. Angela acts as support Actuary for a number of Trustee clients in the actuarial practice and is working towards obtaining her own Scheme Actuary certificate where she will take over as lead on these cases. Angela is also lead advisor on a number of corporate clients and charity/not-for-profit clients. Angela is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.

Angela is experienced in providing support to clients ceasing to participate in multi-employer defined benefit arrangements, in particular, providing advice on the various options available and weighting up the costs, risks and advisory aspects of pursuing each available option. Angela has project managed in excess of 15 exercises involving clients successfully ceasing accrual in Defined Benefit arrangements and moving to Defined Contribution provision for future benefit accrual.

Angela also has significant experience in carrying out regulatory duties such as actuarial valuations, and calculations for accounting disclosures. Angela has also project managed a number of scheme wind ups and liability management exercises.

Angela is a key contributor to the Spence & Partners website and has played a key role in the establishment of Spence & Partners Future Influencers Programme, an initiative to encourage collaboration and information sharing amongst the next generation of pensions industry professionals. Angela is also heavily involved in a number of internal projects and is on our GMP equalisation working group.

Before joining Spence in 2012, Angela worked for a well-known pension, benefit and investment consultancy in Glasgow. Prior to this Angela worked for a major Life Insurance Firm in Edinburgh and therefore brings a range of skills and experience to Spence.
